Travelers are being asked to keep their fingers crossed as the United States grapples with a surge of deadly virus infections, as officials announced Monday a ban on travel to Mexico and a new travel restriction for tourists to the country.
The travel restrictions were first announced Monday by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, who said there is “a real threat of new coronavirus infections in Mexico and that includes tourists.”
The U.N. has said the coronaviruses are spreading rapidly in Mexico, and President Enrique Peña Nieto said in a statement that the country must take measures to protect its citizens and keep the nation safe.
He said the United Nations will continue to work to reduce the number of new cases and cases in Mexico.
